Born to athletic parents in 1978, I was born to run. My mother, Carolyn, was an Australian representative at High jump and my father, Greg, an Australian representative in the sprints. My brother, Justin, also competed in track and field as a sprinter and has been my coach since 2005.
Never competing in Little Athletics, due to me being far more interested in cricket, football and skate boarding, I finally found athletics thru school. I began training with my Dads old coach Neville Sillitoe and made my first senior Commonwealth Games team in 1994 at age 16. Since then I have been hooked to the sport, competing in both 400m and 800m events. My favorite part is still wearing the green and gold and representing my country. I love to compete and I love to strive for my best. My coach’s best advice has been that I cannot influence what anyone else brings to the track, so we focus on getting the most out of me. To this point I have been so privileged to have been apart of four Commonwealth Games, four World Championships, three World Indoors and now three Olympic Games. I currently train from October thru to May in Sandringham, Melbourne at my local and club athletics track with Justin and my very fun and eclectic training partners. From June thru to September I race on the European circuit. In between races I base in the UK and train under the watchful eyes of Daley Thompson and Sebastian Coe. My recent World Indoor 800m win has shown me that hard work and perseverance does pay off. |
