Aussie Domestic Season
What a domestic track and field season we just had. Culminating in a larger than expected World Championships team being named. It was very exciting to see the performances this Aussie season and the team that has been named is very capable of producing when it counts. I think a few new names will become household names this year especially after seeing Fabrice Lapierre long jump 8.29 metres and Tristan Thomas run 48 seconds over the 400 hurdles thru-out the Aussie season.
Personally I had a great season with three new pbs. The two Grand Prixs in Sydney and then Melbourne were fantastic meets. The crowds were supportive and vocal and as an athlete at the end of a 400m when exhausted this definitely helps!! Finally nationals for me were very rewarding. Lining up in my new event, the 400 hurdles, I did not expect to win. I was very lucky to have Lauren Boden of the ACT in the race as she ran passed me early and I just tried to stay with her until it was a race off the last hurdle. I am really looking forward to some great battles with Lauren in the lead up to the worlds, and hopefully by the time the championships come around in August I will be a much better hurdler!!
Thanks to everyone who supported track and field this season…it is a great sport and I hope leading into London Olympics it continues to grow in Australia!
