new year new goals

Hi all,

happy new year everyone. I really hope 2010 is a fantastic year for all of us. I am sitting at my home in Melbourne about to watch Graham play for the Redbacks in their final match of the Twenty20 Big Bash series before their Grand Final next Saturday night. Although I’m watching this one on Foxsports next week I will be in Adelaide to watch it live. I also hope to race interclub at Santos stadium there before the game.

Speaking of interclub, I had a race last Thursday night for my club Sandringham. I absolutely love competing for my club. The environment is so friendly and supportive which to be honest is refreshing. I believe that the high performance program in elite athletics in our country could learn a lot from this atmosphere. Athletes are out there competing to achieve the best they can out of themselves and when they compete; win, lose or draw, there is always someone there on the sidelines supporting them. It is this support that encourages athletes to continue in the sport and try to improve. My coach and training environment really focus on this point and that is the main reason why at 31 I am still out here loving training and competing.

My goals for this year are not set in stone.Obviously it is a Commonwealth Games year and I would really love to represent my country for the 5th time at the games. The games this year are to be held in India and there is a lot of talk going on currently about the possibilities of terrorism. Justin (coach) has already told me that if it appears to be too much of a risk I will not be going. Which is so sad because I would love to go to India. Graham played cricket for Australia there last year and had a great time. So fingers crossed I’ll be there in October! Due to this uncertaintly thou my goals for this season are to focus on improving my hurdle skills and to break the 51 second barrier for the 400 flat. Goal setting is important for focus however I know from experience I dont always achieve the goals I set and I am sure that everyone is the same…unless your Usain Bolt of course!! Still I believe in the words of Theodore Roosevelt “It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed”. Therefor I shall keep setting goals and doing my best to achieve them, as I hope you shall….

All the best for 2010,

Tamsyn x
