canberra and newcastle races
Hi,
Well the Aussie athletics season has well and truly begun. Jan 30th was the Aussie cup which pitted states vs state. As it was still pretty early season and nationals are so late this year my coach had not given me any speed work leading into this meet so I knew it was going to be extremely tough to win, especially with the girls running so well. I love the concept of states competing against each other because as an athlete you really have the chance to feel a part of a team. I was extremely pleased with my result of 52.41 first up against the girls but even more pleased for the Victorians who won the Aussie cup! The team did a great effort and it was so fantastic to celebrate the win with a great bunch of up and coming athletes.
The second meet was in Newcastle. I am not sure why, but there were two high class athletics meets on around the country on the same night. I am pretty sure we cant afford to do this as we dont have the numbers to support this. Hopefully schedules are worked out by athletics australia better next year so as to avoid such clashes on the timetables, therefor giving both meets the best opportunity of succeeding. I can only speak of the Newcastle meet but it was an absolutely fantastic meet with the crowd right on lane 8 of the track and extremely vocal. I was happy with my win in 400m and really enjoyed watching some fantastic results by others including Ryan Gregson’s 800m pb. Newcastle did a great job and hopefully this meet will become a permanent fixture on the athletics calendar.
The next meets on my schedule are an allcomers meet at Olympic Park this Thursday night (Feb 18) in Melbourne over 4 hurdles. Then onto Sydney GP - Feb 27th (4 Hurdles) and Melbourne GP - March 4th(400m). Till then, take care
